Why Volunteer?
by Ric Lobosco

I volunteer because it's fun, personally rewarding, and profitable!

You feel you're too busy? Much like you, I have a business to run, clients to serve and a private life. I donate to charity, attend many business events and pay dues to an assortment of organizations. I make time to volunteer because it's worth it!

Why have you done volunteer work? Did it add meaning to your life?

Volunteers accomplish everything your local business and civic associations do, in a way that money can't. Members volunteer because they care, derive meaning from doing it and much more. As a business coach and consultant, I support my clients in doing what is meaningful for them. I volunteer because I care about our community's prosperity and future. Volunteer because it matters to you.

Do you appreciate high quality in the events and efforts of your local groups?

The events and benefits of your community's groups exist because your "neighbors" contribute a bit of time and energy. Their efforts return to them in the quality of events, and in the experience and learning they gain.

Members get out of their association what they put into it. The more who participate, the better the result. And more fun! (I recommend having fun while doing business.)

I volunteer because I have something to offer, and I want to see the organizations I belong to produce excellence in all their events and efforts. My business benefits from the high quality of events and people. Volunteer to get more of the results you want to see your organization produce.

Would you like to do more business or increase your exposure? Volunteering can do that for you. Give selflessly of your time, energy and talents, as much as you can afford. Others will take notice and be attracted to you. They will get to know you, not just another name on a members list.

This has paid off handsomely for me. I have consistently gained clients, new opportunities, resources and great exposure from all manner of volunteering. Wouldn't you want more of these for yourself and your firm?

By volunteering, I've gotten to know many of the members in the groups I belong to. I have built relationships, recognition and credibility that could not be obtained with an advertising budget. My business has profited from my volunteering. Volunteering is good for your business.

Is a couple of hours a week all you can spare? A couple hours a month? That's plenty! And the ways you can participate are plentiful, too. And if you can't, perhaps you can support someone else on your staff that could!

Your local business and community groups benefit your community in many ways. Volunteering benefits all of us. It's fun, personally rewarding and it's good for your business or career, too!
